The Westboro Baptist Church, a notorious anti-gay Christian fundamentalist hate group, released a series of obnoxious tweets on May 20, immediately after the tornado struck Moore, a community of 41,000 people about 10 miles south of Oklahoma City.
The following is a sample of tweets released by the Westboro Baptist Church praising God for, and celebrating the destruction caused by, the tornado:
We’re only saying ‘you brought His wrath Oklahoma! Oklahoma, you’ll pay!’ #ThankGod for the tornadoes!
Connect the dots america! You refuse to obey God……. He unleashes His fury upon this doomed nation.
Preaching a hate filled gospel so obnoxious most Christians reject their teaching, the Westboro Baptist Church is an anti-gay Christian fundamentalist church notorious for its “God Hates Fags” signs and the picketing of soldiers’ funerals.
Reports indicate the monstrous tornado was at least a half-mile wide, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school in the suburbs of Oklahoma City. At least 236 people were being treated at area hospitals, including dozens of children.
